Nellie J. Cournoyea

Born 1940; first Aboriginal woman government leader, North West Territories (1991-1995); first elected to NWT legislature 1979; Inuit land activist; co-founder of the Committee of Original Peoples’ Entitlement (1969); Chair of the Inuvialuit Regional Corporation which conducts land claims (1996+).
